Top of 2017: Spin by Tigers Jaw

Tigers Jaw accompany my journey throughout the year. Spin, the album that i personally marketed to my friends but they don’t get it. My first meeting with Tigers Jaw was with their “Belongs to the Dead” album that i ilegally downloaded from vkontakte. Then their “S/T” that reminds me of A3’s aggresiveness on “goddammit”. The first time “June” come out, i reckon that they were shifting into something interesting in “spin”.

Sings… “I am here you know i’ll always remind you”

Being here and there in 2017 taking me into new perspective on everything. Not everything loud had substances and at the other hand, things that quite and simple sometime can fueled your anger. Listening to “spin” was like listening to someone’s story about confusion which share the same experience with you as well.

“spin” easily become the anthem that i can sing along the whole day because Ben & Brianna cleverly choose familiar words with simple hook which is struck to your head instantly. Nothing flashy or complex about Tigers Jaw songs in this album. Just simply straight forward. Ben & Brianna also doing a great harmonization on each songs. Soothing sounds.

However, when Collins and Walsh strike gold, they produce some of the best hooks in Tigers Jaw’s career: the chorus of “June” contains delightfully wispy harmonies, “Brass Ring” features Collins’ best lead vocals on the entire album and the album-closing “Window” is hypnotic in its repeated guitar line, sustained keyboard tone and Walsh’s insistent vocal hook, “These days it’s hard not to feel alone/There is a dull glow coming through your window.”

spin acknowledges the past, tipping its hat at it but that nod is an honest goodbye signaling a move to newer pastures.

“All of this can fade away at any time..”

Simply forget about genre, roots, past album whatsoever. Just listen to the story. Because thats what its all about right?
